The diverse geography of Myagdi, stretching from the banks of the Kaligandaki River to the heights of Dhaulagiri, offers immense potential for tourism development. Among its many attractions, the emerging Todke-Dhaulagiri Panorama Cultural Trail is gaining attention as a premier trekking destination.
A Scenic Trek through Nature and Culture
The Todke-Dhaulagiri Panorama Trail traverses the border areas of Raghu Ganga and Mangala rural municipalities and Beni Municipality. From the vantage point of Todke Hill, trekkers can marvel at dozens of snow-capped peaks, including the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The trail, designed for 7-10 days, encompasses a mix of cultural and natural beauty, providing an immersive trekking experience.
Supported by the Gandaki Province Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment, and promoted by the Nepal Tourism Board in collaboration with the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Gandaki, this trail includes religious, historical, and cultural sites. Traditional settlements of ethnic groups such as Magar and Chantyal add to its unique appeal.
TAAN Gandaki President Krishna Prasad Acharya highlighted the significance of developing new trails, noting the diminishing charm of older trekking routes due to expanding road networks. “The Todke-Dhaulagiri trail, connecting Todke to the Dhaulagiri Base Camp and beyond, offers immense potential for Myagdi,” Acharya remarked.
Todke Hill: A Rising Star in Tourism
At an altitude of 2,500 meters, Todke Hill is a prime location for sunrise views and panoramic mountain vistas. Surrounded by rhododendron forests, Todke is particularly enchanting during the spring bloom. Visitors are drawn to its serene environment, traditional stone houses, and the distinct flavors of locally grown radishes, potatoes, and beans.
The area is not just a feast for the eyes but also a significant religious site. The Swargadwari Ashram, believed to have been visited by Swargadwari Mahaprabhu, attracts devotees for meditation and worship.
Private initiatives, such as the Todke Hill Resort, have enhanced the region’s hospitality infrastructure. The resort’s operator, Bhim Sherchan, observed a rise in visitors, stating, “Earlier, tourists had to bring their food and drinks. Now, with improved facilities, group visits have increased.”
Malika Dhuri: A Hidden Gem
Another highlight of the trail is Malika Dhuri, situated at 3,400 meters. This peak offers breathtaking views of over 20 Himalayan ranges, including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna, and Machhapuchhre. The site is also a revered religious destination, housing idols of Kali, Malika, and Jalpa Devi. Festivals such as Chandi Purnima and Bhaitika attract thousands of pilgrims annually.
Adventure and Tranquility Combined
The Todke-Dhaulagiri trail offers trekkers an adventurous yet safe journey. It passes through dense forests, valleys, and waterfalls, culminating at the Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Unique features, such as glacial lakes like Nili Baraha and other sacred water bodies, enhance its allure.
The trail’s development, including mapping and infrastructure planning, is being prioritized by provincial and federal governments. Raghu Ganga Rural Municipality Chairperson Bhav Bahadur Bhandari emphasized its potential as a new gem in Gandaki Province’s tourism offerings, especially amidst concerns of older trails losing their charm.
As the Todke-Dhaulagiri Panorama Trail gains recognition, it stands poised to become a must-visit destination for trekking enthusiasts seeking a blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and adventure.
