Tourism Minister Stresses the Importance of Promoting Domestic Tourism

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, has emphasized the need to promote domestic tourism to revitalize tourism activities in Nepal. Speaking at a book launch and felicitation program organized by the Saptalal and Shriram Smriti Foundation in Panauti today, he said, “The more active domestic tourism becomes, the more it enhances the overall importance of tourism. Therefore, we must give equal emphasis to domestic tourism.”

Minister Pandey highlighted that Nepal’s tourism sector can benefit from the economic growth of neighboring countries. “As neighboring countries like India and China move towards prosperity, it brings opportunities for Nepal’s tourism,” he remarked. He added that Nepal’s cultural diversity, festivals, traditional attire, and cuisine make it an attractive destination for foreign tourists.

He also expressed the ministry’s commitment to assisting Panauti, a historic and archaeological city, in being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

During the event, Minister Pandey unveiled the book “Panautika Jatra Parva Haru–3” authored by local writer Suryaprasad Lakoju. Additionally, he honored Prem Bahadur Mahaju, Mahesh Karmacharya, and Indra Kumari Khadka as “Democratic Warriors” for their contributions.

Later, the minister participated in the “Panauti Triveni Cleanup Campaign,” organized by the Kavreli Women Active Society, which marked its 300th week.

At the event, senior members of the Nepali Congress, including central members Shiva Prasad Humagai and Madhu Prasad Acharya, district president Tirtha Lama, and Panauti Municipality Mayor Ramsharan Bhandari, urged collective efforts to support Panauti’s inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
