Forest Monitoring and Inspection Conducted in Annapurna Conservation Area

The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) office in Lwang successfully conducted a forest monitoring and inspection program with the active participation of representatives from the Machhapuchhre Conservation Area Management Committee, forest management subcommittees, local forest guards, and office staff.

The inspection covered areas such as Chichimle, Hilekhark, Sansur Deurali, and Rest Camp, where two animal traps were removed during the patrol. In another round of monitoring at Jyamirbari, Mivaje, and Poche Tatopani, concerns were raised regarding the ongoing construction activities by the proposed Upper Seti (20 MW) Hydropower project.

Despite prior notices instructing the project to refrain from clearing trees and constructing access routes without necessary approvals, unauthorized tree removal and access road construction were found to be continuing. The project was once again instructed to halt such activities immediately and to proceed only in compliance with legal and environmental regulations.

Additionally, the Ghachok Conservation Area Management Committee completed its monitoring efforts with the ACAP office’s support, focusing on the use and management of locally sourced construction materials. The program underscores ACAP’s commitment to preserving the ecological integrity of the Annapurna Conservation Area while ensuring development activities align with environmental guidelines.
