Ghandruk in Kaski Attracts Over 15,000 Tourists in Kartik

In the month of Kartik, more than 15,000 tourists, both domestic and international, visited Ghandruk, a popular tourist destination located in Annapurna Rural Municipality–10/11 of Kaski. The influx of visitors highlights the growing appeal of Ghandruk as a favorite spot for local travelers.

According to Bikram Gurung, president of the Ghandruk Tourist Management Committee, the area has seen a notable increase in domestic tourism. “In the past, foreign tourists were predominant, but now we see more domestic tourists,” he explained. Gurung also shared that the region has developed several hotels and homestays with a capacity to accommodate 2,200 to 2,500 guests daily, catering to the increasing number of visitors. The surge in domestic tourism is also linked to the growing trend among Nepali people to travel during their holidays and leisure time, which has contributed to the rise in tourist numbers.

However, Krishna Gurung, the treasurer of the Ghandruk Tourist Management Committee, noted a slight decline in tourist numbers compared to the previous year during the holiday season. “This year, fewer tourists visited during the holidays, possibly due to the fluctuating economic conditions. Despite this, Ghandruk still welcomed more than 15,000 domestic tourists, while the number of international visitors ranged from 8,000 to 10,000,” he added.

While the region saw fewer visitors from the eastern part of Nepal, domestic tourists from cities such as Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara were prevalent. Amrit Gurung, the founder of the Lama Amrit Foundation in Ghandruk, mentioned that efforts are underway to extend the stay of tourists by developing additional tourist destinations in the area. “Fridays and Saturdays see the highest influx of domestic tourists,” said Gurung. “

To enhance the tourist experience, we are building destinations like the Ghandruk Circular Trek, Guranse Park, and more. Ghandruk is also known for its traditional Gurung culture and eco-friendly living, making it a major attraction. The stunning view of the Himalayan range further captivates visitors.”

Ghandruk is easily accessible from Pokhara, with a 2.5-hour drive. Visitors can take the Pokhara–Baglung highway, passing through the New Pul and Birethati areas to reach Ghandruk. From Ghandruk, tourists can explore various routes to nearby destinations such as Bhainsikharka–Tadapani, Bonthati, Deurali, and continue to places like Magdi’s Ghodepani, Khorpa Lake, Hidden Lake, and even the Annapurna Base Camp, via Chhomrong.
