The government has decided to increase mountaineering fees, which will come into effect from Bhadra 16, 2082 (September 1, 2025). According to Binod Prakash Singh, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, the revised fees are part of the recently approved Sixth Amendment to the Mountaineering Regulations 2081.

The Department of Tourism confirmed that the new fee structure will be enforced starting in Bhadra 2082, while the upcoming mountaineering season will continue with the existing rates. Department Director-General Narayan Regmi stated that mountaineering fees had not been reviewed for the past 10 years, making this update necessary for proper regulation. He emphasized that periodic revisions are essential for organizing and managing mountaineering activities effectively.

As per the new pricing, the permit fee for climbing Mount Everest will increase from $11,000 to $15,000 per climber starting September 2025. Regmi noted that a $4,000 increase over a decade is not a significant change in the context of the global mountaineering industry.
