The Embassy of Japan in Nepal has honored the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) with the “Ambassador’s Award” in recognition of its significant contribution to the successful organization of the Manaslu Platinum Jubilee. The award was presented on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Manaslu, one of Nepal’s most prominent Himalayan peaks and an important symbol of Nepal-Japan mountaineering ties.

Japan’s Ambassador Honors Nepal Mountaineering Association for Role in Manaslu Platinum Jubilee

NMA Recognized for Manaslu Jubilee Contribution

The Embassy of Japan awarded the honor specifically in appreciation of the NMA’s important role in making the Manaslu Platinum Jubilee successful. The Association has been actively involved in Nepal’s mountaineering sector and has contributed to the promotion, development, and management of mountaineering activities in the country. Its involvement in the jubilee program further strengthened cooperation between Nepal’s mountaineering community and Japan.

Celebrating 70 Years of Manaslu’s First Ascent

Mount Manaslu, standing at 8,163 meters, is the eighth-highest mountain in the world. The mountain holds a particularly significant place in the history of Nepal-Japan mountaineering relations.

A Japanese expedition successfully made the first ascent of Manaslu in 1956, marking a major milestone in Himalayan mountaineering. The 70th anniversary celebrations therefore served as an opportunity to remember the historic expedition and the long-standing relationship between Nepal and Japan in the field of mountaineering.

Strengthening Nepal-Japan Tourism Ties

The Ambassador’s Award also reflects the broader relationship between Nepal and Japan in tourism and mountaineering. Japan has played an important role in Nepal’s mountaineering history, while Japanese climbers and adventure travelers have continued to show interest in Nepal’s Himalayan destinations. Events such as the Manaslu Platinum Jubilee provide an opportunity to celebrate this shared history and encourage further cooperation in mountain tourism.

Tourism and Mountaineering Representatives Attend

Officials and members of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, along with representatives from Nepal’s mountaineering and tourism sectors, attended the award ceremony. The gathering brought together stakeholders from the mountain tourism community to recognize the significance of Manaslu’s climbing history and the cooperation behind the anniversary celebrations.

Recognition for Nepal’s Mountaineering Community

The award is regarded as an important recognition of the contribution made by Nepal’s mountaineering community to preserving and promoting the country’s Himalayan heritage. As Nepal continues to promote sustainable and responsible mountain tourism, cooperation between national institutions, international partners and mountaineering organizations remains important for protecting the country’s mountain destinations while strengthening Nepal’s position as a leading global adventure tourism destination.
