National Indigenous Food Festival to Promote Tourism in Bharatpur for Visit Nepal 2024

In celebration of Visit Nepal Year 2024, Bharatpur is set to host a National Indigenous Food Festival. The event will take place from tomorrow, Friday, through Poush 16 at Janaki Secondary School in Meghauli, West Chitwan.

The festival will feature 50 stalls showcasing local cuisines, according to coordinator Mayaram Chaudhary. With an estimated budget of NPR 6.1 million, the festival aims to highlight the culinary traditions of the Tharu, Kumal, Darai, Magar, Gurung, Bote, and Musahar communities, among others. Organizers believe this event will significantly contribute to improving the living standards of local communities and attract over 100,000 visitors.

Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal highlighted the remarkable success of Visit Nepal Year in the region, revealing that over the past year, the city welcomed approximately 200,000 international and 1 million domestic tourists. “The campaign has boosted the promotion of Bharatpur’s tourist destinations on national and international levels, increased both domestic and international tourist arrivals, and contributed to sustainable tourism infrastructure development. Enhanced services in hotels and restaurants have also led to growth in tourist numbers, stay durations, and economic activities,” Mayor Dahal stated.

Deputy Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari emphasized the role of the campaign in directly benefiting local residents. “This initiative aligns with the city’s development goals, and the festival will energize the local community,” he remarked.

The festival will also feature a unique 77-meter-long map of Nepal representing all 77 districts as a special attraction. In addition to culinary delights, the event will showcase performances by various local and national artists.

Meghauli, a prominent tourist destination in West Chitwan, is renowned for its scenic sunset views along the banks of the Narayani and Rapti rivers. With a growing population of wildlife in the western region of Chitwan National Park, the area continues to draw an increasing number of visitors.
