In a bid to strengthen cultural and tourism ties between Nepal and China, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) recently hosted a 14-member Chinese delegation led by Su Yang, Director of the International Division of the China Film Administration. The discussion focused on leveraging cinema as a medium to promote Nepal’s rich culture and stunning landscapes, fostering deeper connections between the two countries.
The delegation included prominent figures from the Chinese film industry, such as Yu Hong, celebrated actress known for her role in G for Gap and a two-time Golden Rooster Award recipient; Zheng Zheng, Deputy Director of the Market Department at China Film Administration; Owen Yang, head of Tiger Pictures Entertainment; Jing Jiao, director of Personal Persistence; Lu Wei, screenwriter of Life of Luosang; and directors Zhang Gudong and Zhang Yudi, renowned for their work on Midsummer Voice.
NTB Senior Managers Laxman Gautam and Sunil Sharma highlighted the potential of cinema to serve as a powerful tool for promoting Nepal’s tourism. They emphasized how films showcasing Nepal’s cultural heritage and natural beauty could attract international visitors, particularly from China.
The meeting underlined the importance of cultural exchanges in tourism development, with both sides expressing interest in exploring collaborative projects. This initiative is expected to open new avenues for Nepal’s tourism sector by leveraging the influence of Chinese cinema and fostering greater mutual understanding through shared cultural narratives.
