Nirmala Rai from Khotang has secured first place in the Panch Pokhari Women’s Trail Race, completing the 28 km course in 2 hours and 28 minutes. The race, which began at Panch Pokhari Lake in Thangpal Rural Municipality, saw Rai lead the pack with her impressive time.
Lhakpa Ningma Sherpa from Okhaldhunga came in second place, finishing in 2 hours and 49 minutes, while Nitu Tamang from Helambu, Sindhupalchok, claimed third place with a time of 2 hours and 58 minutes. Both the first and second-place finishers completed the race faster than the previous record set by Manju Rawat in 2019, who had finished the same course in 2 hours and 52 minutes.
The race was organized by the World Inclusive Courageous Institution to promote women’s capacity building, according to organizer Maya Gurung.
Asmita Bhujel from Melamchi, Sindhupalchok, and Asma Bik from Rolpa secured fourth and fifth places, with times of 3 hours and 11 minutes, and 3 hours and 18 minutes, respectively.
The top five finishers were awarded cash prizes, shields, medals, and certificates. The prizes for the top five were as follows: NPR 50,000 for the first place, NPR 25,000 for second, NPR 15,000 for third, NPR 10,000 for fourth, and NPR 5,000 for fifth. Deputy Speaker Indira Rana presented the awards to the winners.
