NOC Nearly Doubles Aviation Fuel Prices for Domestic and International Flights

Aviation Fuel

Aviation fuel prices in Nepal have surged dramatically, with the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) announcing a near doubling of rates for both domestic and international flights.

According to a press statement released by the corporation on Tuesday, the price adjustment has significantly increased the cost of aviation fuel, a move expected to impact airline operations and airfares in the coming days.

Sharp Increase in Domestic Aviation Fuel

As per the revised rates, the price of aviation fuel for domestic flights has been raised from Rs 127 per litre to Rs 251 per litre. This marks an almost twofold increase, making it one of the steepest hikes in recent times.

Airlines operating within Nepal are likely to face increased operational costs, which may ultimately be passed on to passengers through higher ticket prices.

International Fuel Prices Also Surge

The price hike extends to international aviation fuel as well, with significant increases across major airports in the country.

  • In Kathmandu, the price has jumped from USD 966 per kilolitre to USD 1,785 per kilolitre.
  • In Pokhara, the rate has increased from USD 801 to USD 1,732 per kilolitre.
  • In Bhairahawa, the price has risen from USD 789 to USD 1,716 per kilolitre.

These increases represent a substantial burden for international carriers operating flights to and from Nepal.

Impact on the Aviation Sector

Industry experts warn that the sharp rise in fuel prices could have a ripple effect across the aviation and tourism sectors. Airlines may be compelled to revise ticket fares, reduce flight frequencies, or reassess operational strategies to cope with rising costs.

The decision comes at a time when Nepal’s tourism industry is gradually recovering, and stakeholders fear that increased travel costs could affect tourist inflow.

Corporation Cites Price Adjustment Policy

The Nepal Oil Corporation stated that the price adjustment was made in line with its fuel pricing policy, though it did not elaborate in detail on the underlying reasons for the sharp increase.

With aviation fuel being a major component of airline operating expenses, the latest revision is expected to have immediate and wide-ranging implications for both domestic and international air travel in Nepal.
