Seamless Visits Planned with Online Ticket System at Patan Durbar Museum

Visitors will soon be able to book tickets online from home to visit the historic Patan Durbar Museum, a major cultural landmark located within Patan Durbar Square. The initiative aims to make visits more convenient for both domestic and international tourists.

Final Preparations Underway

The museum administration has announced that preparations to implement the online ticketing system are in their final stage. The digital platform is being introduced with a focus on improving service delivery and managing the growing number of visitors to the heritage site.

According to Museum Chief Suresh Man Lakhe, the system is currently in a trial phase and will be officially launched after testing is completed.

Trial Phase and Existing Payment Options

At present, tickets are issued through two counters within the museum premises. The museum has already introduced a QR code–based payment system, allowing visitors to pay digitally.

Lakhe stated that the addition of online booking will further simplify the process. “Once visitors can book tickets online from home, it will be far more convenient. We are preparing for an official launch soon, and the system is currently under testing,” he said.

Enhancing Visitor Experience and Management

Museum officials believe the online system will significantly reduce long queues, save visitors’ time, and help authorities manage tourist flow more effectively. The move is also expected to modernize services at one of Nepal’s most treasured heritage destinations.

Strong Tourist Footfall in 2025

The museum recorded a total of 313,300 visitors in 2025. Among them were 105,300 foreign tourists, including 43,053 visitors from SAARC member countries. The steady rise in visitor numbers has underscored the need for a more efficient ticketing system.

Preserving and Promoting World Heritage

The museum, situated in the historic city of Lalitpur, forms part of the Kathmandu Valley heritage ensemble recognized by UNESCO. Authorities say adopting digital services is an important step toward balancing heritage preservation with modern tourism management.

Officials expect the online ticketing system to officially come into operation soon, marking a new chapter in making Nepal’s cultural heritage more accessible in the digital age.
