A pilgrimage trek connecting the renowned Manakamana Temple to Gorakhkali Temple has been officially launched, aiming to promote religious tourism in Gorkha. The trek is organized by the Rotary Club of Gorkha with support from the Gorkha Municipality and the Shahid Lakhan Rural Municipality.
Binod Kumar Basnyat, President of the Rotary Club of Gorkha, emphasized the significance of establishing this trekking route. If the trekking path from Manakamana to Gorakhkali is properly developed, devotees visiting the Manakamana Temple will also be encouraged to extend their pilgrimage to the Gorakhkali Temple, contributing to the overall tourism growth of Gorkha. “

Gorkha Municipality Mayor Krishna Bahadur Rana Magar highlighted the importance of this trek in linking religious tourists to multiple sacred sites. The route includes not only the iconic Manakamana Temple but also Bakreshwari Temple, Siddha Lakhan Thapa Cave, and the birthplace of Nepal’s first martyr, Lakhan Thapa, before reaching Gorakhkali Temple via Kaunle Bhangar and Kuhire Cliff.
“Every Nepali should visit Gorkha at least once to understand the history of Nepal’s unification,” said Mayor Rana Magar, adding that the municipality has declared a “Gorkha Tourism Year” to implement various tourism promotion initiatives. Despite the historical and religious connection between Manakamana and Gorakhkali, a structured tourism link between the two temples had not been effectively established until now.

The trekking team is expected to reach Gorakhkali Temple, located in Gorkha’s district headquarters, by Saturday. According to Mayor Rana Magar, the two temples share a sacred bond as “sister temples,” and there is a traditional belief that devotees who visit both Manakamana and Gorakhkali will have their wishes fulfilled.
This initiative is anticipated to enhance religious tourism, preserve Gorkha’s historical and cultural heritage, and provide pilgrims with a meaningful spiritual experience.
