The Pokhara Tourism Council has appealed for the preservation of business safety in the tourism sector following recent unrest. Chairperson Taranath Pahari issued a public statement today, emphasizing that strikes, shutdowns, vandalism, and arson under the banner of protests directly impact the tourism industry. The council called on all stakeholders to ensure professional security and stability within the sector.
Impact of Recent Protests on Tourism
During the protests on Bhadra 23 and 24, both public and private properties were damaged, looted, and set on fire. The council expressed serious concern over these incidents, which have had a direct impact on Pokhara’s tourism-dependent economy.

As a primary source of foreign exchange for the country, the tourism industry has suffered from these attacks, said Pahari. Hotels, restaurants, shops, and tourist vehicles faced targeted vandalism and arson, undermining the sector’s gradual recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Expression of Sympathy to Affected Entrepreneurs
The Pokhara Tourism Council expressed deep regret over the damage inflicted on businesses and conveyed solidarity and sympathy to all affected entrepreneurs and business owners. The council highlighted that such disruptions hinder the growth and stability of tourism, which plays a crucial role in generating revenue, employment, and international goodwill for Nepal.
Call for Legal Action and Compensation
The council has urged authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incidents of vandalism, arson, and looting. They called for strict legal action against the perpetrators and appropriate compensation for affected tourism entrepreneurs to restore confidence in the industry.

Chairperson Pahari emphasized that tourism is a professional and service-oriented industry that requires protection from social unrest and unlawful activities. Ensuring the safety of tourism enterprises is essential for the continued growth of Nepal’s economy and the country’s reputation as a safe tourist destination.
Tourism Sector’s Recovery at Stake
The council warned that repeated disturbances could reverse the modest gains achieved by the tourism industry post-pandemic. Tourism stakeholders, including hotel operators, restaurateurs, and transport service providers, rely heavily on uninterrupted business operations to sustain livelihoods and attract foreign visitors.
The Pokhara Tourism Council called on all citizens and authorities to support peaceful coexistence and uphold law and order, emphasizing that constructive dialogue and cooperation are the only ways to resolve conflicts without jeopardizing the economic backbone of the region.
