Chitwan National Park has begun extensive road and bridge repair work along its popular tourist routes in preparation for the upcoming Vijayadashami (Dashain) festival. The park authorities are fast-tracking the maintenance work to ensure that jeep safaris can operate smoothly and safely for domestic and international tourists visiting during the festive season.

According to Abinash Thapa Magar, the park’s Information Officer, repair work is currently underway along approximately 90 kilometers of safari roads. “We are focusing on road repairs and clearing overgrown bushes to ensure safe and comfortable jeep safari operations,” Thapamagar said.

Clearing Bushes and Repairing Bridges

The ongoing repair work involves clearing overgrown bushes and conducting bridge maintenance along the important Sauraha to Kujouli Ghat safari route. These efforts are crucial for ensuring smooth and uninterrupted jeep safari operations.

Park officials have stepped up initiatives to eliminate roadblockages and enhance the overall condition of the roads. These improvements aim to provide visitors with a safer and more comfortable wildlife safari experience.

Thapamagar highlighted that the park has targeted the Dashain festival to reopen jeep safaris, which had been temporarily closed since Ashadh 16. While safaris within the main park remain suspended during the off-season, community forests outside the core area continue to be accessible for tourist activities.

Comprehensive Safari Preparation

The ongoing maintenance work covers not only the roadways but also the small and large bridges that form part of the 90-kilometer safari circuit. The park team is ensuring that all potential hazards, including fallen trees, debris, and waterlogged areas, are cleared before the festive season begins. This preparation is part of a broader strategy to make the Chitwan National Park more attractive and visitor-friendly during the peak tourism periods.

Jeep Safari Attractions

Chitwan National Park is renowned for its rich biodiversity and wildlife experiences. Once the safari resumes, tourists will travel through scenic spots including Dumariya, Lami Tal, Tamor Tal, the Gharial Breeding Center, the Tiger Platform, Sukhivar, Bhimle, Tiger Tops, Bagmara, Khoriya Muhan, and finally, Devi Tal, observing a variety of wildlife along the way.

The safari provides opportunities to spot some of the park’s most iconic species, including the one-horned rhinoceros and Bengal tigers, making it a major attraction for both domestic and foreign tourists. The jeep safari route is considered a highlight for visitors from Chitwan, Nawalparasi, and beyond, offering a unique glimpse of Nepal’s natural heritage.

Tourism Boost During Festive Season

By reopening the jeep safaris in time for Dashain, Chitwan National Park aims to attract more tourists and support the local economy. The park’s proximity to popular towns like Sauraha ensures that visitors have access to a range of services including lodging, restaurants, and guided tours.

Authorities are confident that the timely completion of road repairs and bridge maintenance will result in a safe, smooth, and enjoyable safari experience for all visitors. With the improved infrastructure, the park expects increased tourist footfall during the festival season, further highlighting Chitwan National Park as a premier wildlife destination in Nepal.

Chitwan National Park’s proactive measures to repair and maintain its safari roads underscore its commitment to tourism development and wildlife conservation. By ensuring safe travel routes and enhancing visitor experiences, the park continues to serve as a key destination for wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers, and cultural tourists alike.

The reopening of jeep safaris ahead of the festival not only caters to the growing number of tourists but also helps sustain local businesses and communities that rely on wildlife tourism. With these efforts, Chitwan National Park remains poised to offer a memorable and educational wildlife experience, attracting visitors from across Nepal and around the world.
