Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed the importance of preserving the teachings of Buddhism, which originated in Nepal with Siddhartha Gautam, noting that Buddhism’s foundation in science makes it particularly valuable. Speaking at the book launch event for “Buddha’s Original Philosophy” by Buddhist scholar Dr. Ajay Krinti Shakya, Prime Minister Oli expressed his initial intention to attend the program with joy. However, he arrived with a heavy heart after visiting the site of the recent Saurya Airlines plane crash.
In his address, Prime Minister Oli paid tribute to the 18 victims of the crash, extended condolences to their families, and wished a swift recovery for the injured Captain. He highlighted Nepal’s role in promoting humanism globally, referencing the International Medication Centre established in Lumbini during his previous term to further Buddha’s teachings.
Prime Minister Oli also conveyed his appreciation for Dr. Shakya’s efforts in spreading knowledge about Buddhism and its philosophy, underscoring the continued relevance of Buddhist principles in contemporary times.
