In a rare aviation maneuver, Qatar Airways successfully landed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) today using runway ‘20’ (Boudha side), a route seldom used for international flights.

Generally, international flights at TIA land from runway ‘02’ (Koteshwor side), as per standard procedures. However, according to airport sources, today’s landing was necessitated by changes in wind pressure, compelling the aircraft to adopt an uncommon approach.

Previously, Air India and Nepal Airlines have executed circling approaches using this route, but very few other international airlines have opted for it. The event underscores the dynamic nature of aviation operations at TIA, where pilots must occasionally adjust flight paths based on prevailing weather conditions.

The successful execution of this rare approach highlights the expertise of Qatar Airways’ pilots and the adaptability of Nepal’s aviation infrastructure in handling such deviations from standard procedures.
