Syangja Rising: The Dynamic Fusion of Tradition, Learning, and Community

Syangja, with its main town Putali Bazar, is located 265 km from Kathmandu, passing through Pokhara. The district is connected to Pokhara in the north and Bhairahawa in the south by the Siddhartha Highway.

Syangja is a place with many different languages and cultures. It has people from various communities, including Brahmins, Chhetris, Gurungs, and Magars. The Brahmins and Chhetris are mostly known for their roles in government jobs, while the Gurungs and Magars have strong ties to the army.

What makes Syangja even more special is that it has the highest literacy rate in Nepal, making it a leader in education. It’s a place where tradition and learning come together beautifully.

Suntala (Orange) Village Homestay

Khalte Gaun, famous for its orange farms, offers a peaceful retreat through the Suntalabari Community Homestay Project. Located along the Siddhartha Highway, it’s accessible via Pokhara. Visitors can explore orange farms, enjoy waterfalls like Basanti Jharna and Khalte Jharana, and visit temples like Shiva Ji Mandir and Kanchi Manakamana Mandir. Dahare Deurali

Dahare Deurali, located at 2266m in Syangja – Parbat district, is a sacred site where Devi Bhagwati is believed to have meditated. Offering stunning views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountains, as well as the entire district, it’s a place of spiritual significance. Local saints continue daily rituals here, and visitors often feel a divine presence, with the area known for its strong winds and extreme weather.

Ramkot and Baghe Gaun Homestay

The community homestay in Ramkot village, Syangja, has been operational for two years and has attracted both domestic and international tourists. Situated at 1,500 meters above sea level, Ramkot offers stunning panoramic views of Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Lamjung peaks. Located just a 40-minute walk from Kubinde along the Siddhartha Highway, Ramkot is a great spot for tourists. The locals are enthusiastic about promoting it as a popular tourist destination.

Bear Hill (Bhalu Pahaad)

Bhalupahad is a beautiful spot 28 km from Pokhara on the Siddhartha Highway. It’s known for its scenic views and is popular in music videos and movies. The place is a favorite picnic spot for schools and organizations. Once home to wild animals, it’s now safe for locals thanks to the highway nearby.

Ramche Devi Temple

Ramche Devi Temple is a famous religious site located in the Syangja district of Nepal. Situated on a hill, the temple offers a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Ramche Devi, and locals believe it holds spiritual significance. People often visit the temple to pray and seek blessings. It is also a place of natural beauty, with stunning views of the surrounding hills and landscapes. Chhangchhangdi Shivalaya Temple

Chhangchhangdi is a village in Syangja District, Nepal, known for its religious significance and cultural diversity. It is associated with the story of Lord Shiva and Satyawati, with a waterfall believed to be created by Shiva. The village has basic facilities like roads, electricity, and schools, and is located along the Siddhartha Highway. It has seen development since the restoration of democracy in 2046 B.S. and is a popular destination for Hindu devotees, especially during festivals.

Swarek Maidan

Swarek Maidan, located in Bheerkot Municipality, Syangja, is a rising tourist destination. It gained international attention after hosting the first open paragliding competition and national aviation player selection. Accessible via Siddhartha Highway, it’s 9 km from Bayarghari and 11 km from Waling Bazar. The first paragliding school in South Asia is also here, and Swarek Maidan is included in the Ministry of Tourism’s promotional list for tourist destinations.

Panchase Religious and Conservation Area

Panchase Religious and Conservation Area, located in Syangja, Parbat, and Kaski districts, is a sacred and natural haven. It features important temples like Siddha Baba’s Temple and Mahadev Temple, along with breathtaking views from the Panchase Hill View Tower. Known for its religious significance and rich biodiversity, the area offers trekking opportunities, including routes to Chitre Village. Visitors can enjoy stunning sunrise views and experience rural life, all while contributing to the conservation of the region’s environment. It’s an ideal spot for nature lovers and spiritual seekers alike.

Ramdi Ghat

Ramdi Ghat, located on the border of Syangja and Palpa districts along the Kaligandaki River, is a significant religious site. It is known for fairs held during Baisakh Sankranti and Kattike Thulo Ekadashi. The place is also known for death rituals. Situated 52 km south of the district headquarters, Ramdi Ghat houses an old age home that supports about 100 elderly people. Additionally, there is the Shiddha Cave nearby, surrounded by various traditional beliefs and cultural significance.

Kailash Cave

The Shiddha Cave, located in Putli Bazaar Municipality Ward No. 8, is believed to be a place where Lord Shiva once visited. The cave has two entrances that converge after about 300 meters, continuing as one path. Its end remains unknown. Locals claim that inside the cave, there are statues of gods and goddesses, images of cows, and a beautiful pond. However, due to frequent landslides and poor maintenance, the cave is in a deteriorating condition.

Manakamana Temple

Manakamana was a village development committee in Syangja District, Gandaki Zone, Nepal, with a population of 4,385 people across 997 households according to the 2011 census. However, it was merged into Biruwa Rural Municipality following the implementation of a new local administrative structure by the government of Nepal on March 12, 2017.

Darau Shiruwari

Daru Shiruwari, located in Adhikhola village in northern Syangja, is the first rural homestay in South Asia based on the concept of rural tourism. Situated 5 km from Pokhara at an altitude of 5,600 meters, it is famous for the Gurung community. Visitors can reach Shiruwari by driving through Nagdanda, Setikhola, Badakhola, and Helu on Siddhartha Highway. The homestay offers a warm welcome, organic food made from local products, and stunning views of the Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre mountain ranges. Shiruwari is also featured as a tourism destination by Nepal’s Ministry of Tourism.

Kaligandaki Hydropower Project and Setibeni

The Kaligandaki Hydropower Project, located about 100 kilometers west of Pokhara, is Nepal’s largest hydropower project with a capacity of 100 MW. It spans wards no 5 and 7 of Kaligandaki village and wards no 2 of Galyang municipality. The project has significantly boosted tourism in the region, especially to observe and study the world’s largest Shaligram at Setibeni, located at the union of Parwat, Gulmi, and Syangja. Due to the increased flow of water during the monsoon, the site is closed from the end of May to the 1st of October. Both domestic and foreign tourists, including pilgrims from India, visit to see the Shaligram, which is unique to the Kaligandaki River.

Bahakot Kalika Temple

The Bahakot Temple, located in Ward No 8 of Putalibazar, is a prominent religious destination. According to legend, the kings of the 22 and 24 states once lived in the area. After a hunting trip where they encountered a sleeping tiger and tigress, two sisters named Kushmawati and Kanthawati were born at the same place. When the sisters disappeared, the Bahakot Kalika Temple was built in their honor. Today, the temple is dedicated to the worship of goddesses Kushmawati and Kanthawati, especially during the Nawami of Dashain and Ashtami of Chaitya Dashain.

Satau Chandinath and Chandikalika

Chandithan, located in Satau, Ward No 8 of Putalibazar, Syangja, is a popular tourist site known for its panoramic views and historical significance. It features two ancient temples, Chandi and Kalika, believed to be 600 years old. Visitors can also see the remains of a palace and learn about Kair Singh Basnet’s death. The site is accessible by road and attracts devotees from Nepal and India.
