Tourism-related organizations have recommended upgrading Nepal Airlines Corporation and expanding its services to key source markets to enhance Nepal’s tourism development. The suggestions were presented during a discussion with Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey.
Key Recommendations for Tourism Growth
Representatives from various tourism associations emphasized the need for improving Nepal Airlines’ capabilities to attract international tourists. They highlighted that expanding the airline’s services to major source markets is crucial for boosting tourism inflows and ensuring sustainable growth in the sector.
Legislative Progress on Civil Aviation
During the discussion, the stakeholders expressed gratitude to Minister Pandey for the Cabinet’s approval of the bill to separate the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) into two entities—service provider and regulatory body. They noted that if the Parliament passes this bill, it could significantly enhance Nepal’s aviation standards, making the country more accessible to European markets and potentially increasing tourist arrivals from the region.
Call for Aggressive International Promotion
The stakeholders also called for aggressive international promotion of Nepal through the Nepal Tourism Board. They stressed the importance of launching targeted marketing campaigns to establish Nepal as a premier travel destination.
Concerns Over Lukla Helicopter Flights
The discussion addressed ongoing issues with helicopter flights to Lukla, a critical gateway to the Everest region. The participants warned that these disruptions could adversely impact Nepal’s tourism.
Minister’s Commitment
Minister Pandey assured the participants that the government is committed to resolving challenges in the tourism sector and implementing necessary policy reforms. He urged tourism stakeholders to collaborate in addressing these issues. Furthermore, the meeting concluded with an agreement to conduct regular monthly discussions to identify and address tourism-related challenges.
This dialogue marks a step forward in aligning the efforts of the government and private sector toward sustainable tourism development in Nepal.
