Minister Badri Pandey Declares 2025-2035 as “Tourism Decade” for Nepal

In a significant announcement during the 26th anniversary celebration of the Nepal Tourism Board, Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Pandey declared that the period from 2025 to 2035 will be celebrated as the “Tourism Decade” in Nepal. This initiative aims to boost the country’s tourism sector and create a focused strategy for its development over the next decade.

Minister Pandey recalled that Nepal first declared a “Tourism Year” in 1998, which marked the beginning of a concerted effort to promote tourism. He also mentioned that the government had previously declared the period from 2022 to 2032 as the “Tourism Decade,” but due to a lack of implementation mechanisms, the initiative was not realized. With this new declaration, the government is committed to fulfilling its goal and ensuring that the period from 2025 to 2035 becomes a milestone for Nepal’s tourism sector.

During his speech, Minister Pandey emphasized that the government is working on transforming policies to provide clear direction for the overall tourism development in Nepal. He acknowledged the importance of a tourism-friendly policy and revealed that a new tourism policy is in the final stages of preparation, with its official release expected soon.

Further, Minister Pandey stressed the need for public-private partnerships (PPP) to effectively promote Nepal’s tourism. He urged the Tourism Board to embrace this concept and focus on enhancing international promotional activities through digital marketing. He recognized the importance of reaching global audiences by leveraging modern marketing techniques and digital platforms.

Minister Pandey also highlighted the country’s unique diversity as a key strength in its tourism strategy. Nepal, with its multicultural, multilingual, and multi-religious society, offers a rich variety of cultural and geographical experiences. He stated that it is essential to preserve the unity, tolerance, and harmony among different communities in the country, as this will play a crucial role in the growth and expansion of the tourism sector.

He pointed out that Nepal has its own distinctive tourism products, which need to be promoted effectively in the international market. This, he argued, would not only contribute to Nepal’s tourism growth but also enhance its global standing as a prime travel destination. Minister Pandey’s vision for the “Tourism Decade” emphasizes both sustainable tourism development and the promotion of Nepal’s cultural and natural heritage on the world stage.
