Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly gaining unauthorized access to Buddha Air’s ticketing system and issuing flight tickets without permission. The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office took the suspects into custody on Sunday, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Kaji Kumar Acharya.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 45-year-old Bikash Bharatiya, a resident of Tarkeshwar Municipality-9 in Kathmandu, originally from Morang, and 37-year-old Baburam Adhikari, a resident of Tarkeshwar-4 in Kathmandu, originally from Gorkha.

Authorities suspect that the duo manipulated Buddha Air’s digital system to generate and issue airline tickets fraudulently. The police have initiated further investigations under the Electronic Transactions Act, of 2063, which governs cyber-related offenses in Nepal.

The arrested individuals have been handed over to the Kathmandu District Police Office for further legal proceedings. The authorities are now probing whether more individuals or entities were involved in the illicit activity. This incident raises concerns about digital security in Nepal’s aviation industry, highlighting the need for stringent cybersecurity measures to prevent unauthorized access to airline systems.
