The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) General Assembly 2026 has successfully concluded in Nepal, bringing together 95 delegates representing 45 countries for an important international gathering of the global climbing and mountaineering community. The event marked another significant milestone for Nepal’s international mountaineering engagement, highlighting the country’s longstanding connection with mountain sports and its position as a leading destination for climbing and mountaineering.
The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), which hosted the General Assembly, expressed its gratitude to all participating delegates, the UIAA leadership and member federations for their contributions to the successful completion of the event. The gathering also provided an opportunity to strengthen Nepal’s relationship with the international mountaineering community while introducing visiting representatives to the country’s natural and cultural attractions.

Nepal Hosts UIAA General Assembly for the Third Time
The NMA extended special appreciation to the UIAA, its President Peter Muir, office bearers and member federations for entrusting Nepal with the responsibility of hosting the General Assembly for the third time. The association described the opportunity as a matter of great pride and honour for both Nepal and the NMA. Hosting the international assembly reflects Nepal’s continued involvement in the global climbing and mountaineering sector. As a country renowned for the Himalayas and home to some of the world’s highest mountains, Nepal holds an important place in international mountaineering. The gathering brought together representatives from 45 countries, creating an international platform for engagement among climbing and mountaineering organisations.
International Delegates Explore Nepal Beyond the Assembly
With the conclusion of the General Assembly, many international delegates are continuing their journeys across Nepal to experience its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Others are preparing to return to their respective countries following their participation in the international event. The presence of international mountaineering representatives also provides an opportunity to introduce Nepal’s diverse tourism attractions beyond its famous Himalayan peaks.

From mountain destinations and scenic landscapes to historic heritage sites and distinctive cultural experiences, Nepal offers visitors a wide range of travel opportunities. The NMA extended its best wishes to delegates continuing their travels in Nepal, hoping they would enjoy memorable experiences and wonderful adventures. It also wished those departing the country safe, comfortable and pleasant journeys.
NMA Thanks UIAA and International Mountaineering Community
The association thanked all 95 delegates for their participation and valuable contributions, acknowledging the support of the UIAA leadership and member federations in making the 2026 General Assembly a memorable and successful gathering. The successful conclusion of the event further strengthens Nepal’s engagement with the international climbing and mountaineering community.

The NMA also expressed its hope of welcoming the delegates and international mountaineering representatives back to Nepal in the future. The UIAA General Assembly 2026 has thus concluded not only as an important international mountaineering gathering but also as an opportunity to promote Nepal’s mountain tourism, cultural heritage and natural attractions to representatives from around the world.
