President Paudel Emphasizes the Importance of Preserving Nepal’s Art and Culture

President Ramchandra Paudel highlighted the significance of music, drama, art, and culture as integral components of society during his address at the ‘Nepal Music and Drama National Academy Award, 2080 distribution ceremony. The event, organized by the Nepal Academy of Music & Drama, was held today at Sheetal Niwas.

In his speech, President Paudel stressed that the identity linked with art and culture will be a spectacular asset for future generations. He underscored the need to preserve Nepal’s indigenous art and cultural diversity by incorporating new features. “Nepal is rich in natural and cultural diversities. The religion, philosophy, art, and culture inherited from our ancestors are the identity markers of our national life,” he remarked, adding, “It is the responsibility of today’s conscious society to preserve the country’s precious art and culture and bring new dimensions to them.”

President Paudel also emphasized the importance of not only taking pride in history but also making continuous efforts to create new history. He lauded the contributions of individuals working to preserve Nepal’s cultural heritage and promote it globally, noting that their efforts are unforgettable.

Expressing happiness over the government’s recognition of literary writers and artists through the Academy, President Paudel noted that this tradition honors the entire cultural and creative realm. He encouraged the new generation to continue this tradition of honoring litterateurs for their contributions.

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Hit Bahadur Tamang, also spoke at the event, highlighting Nepal’s unique identity stemming from its diverse cultural and artistic heritage. “We should always be ready to preserve and promote our culture,” Minister Tamang said, adding that the government has paid special attention to the promotion and preservation of art, culture, and literature.

Six literary writers were honored with the Nepal Music and Drama National Academy Award-2080. The awardees included Harihar Sharma (theatre category), Chandan Kumar Shrestha (traditional and classical music category), Tara Thapa (music category), Bam Bahadur Karki (folk music category), Gopal Dewan (drama category), and Jogendra KC (dance category). Each recipient received Rs 100,000 and a copper plaque.

Academy Chancellor Nisha Sharma announced that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of the academy’s auditorium is in progress and expressed hope for cooperation from the Tourism Minister.
