Vietnam Welcomes 12.3 Million International Visitors in First Half of 2026

Vietnam welcomed nearly 12.3 million international visitors during the first six months of 2026, recording a 14.9% year-on-year increase and maintaining strong momentum toward its goal of attracting 25 million foreign tourists by the end of the year. According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), the robust growth highlights the country’s continued recovery and reinforces its position as one of Asia’s fastest-growing tourism destinations.

June Records Strong Arrivals Despite Low Season

Vietnam received approximately 1.7 million international visitors in June alone, demonstrating sustained tourism demand even though the month traditionally falls within the country’s low travel season. Air travel remained the primary gateway for international tourists, with 10.12 million visitors arriving by air, accounting for 82.6% of total arrivals. Meanwhile, both land and sea border crossings also posted healthy growth, reflecting improved regional connectivity and diversified travel options.

China and South Korea Lead Source Markets

China continued to be Vietnam’s largest inbound tourism market, contributing 2.7 million visitors during the first half of the year. South Korea ranked second with 2.16 million arrivals, while Russia emerged as the third-largest source market, bringing in more than 742,000 visitors as direct air connections between the two countries continued to recover. Other major international source markets included Taiwan, the United States, Cambodia, India, and Japan, underscoring Vietnam’s broad appeal across Asia and beyond.

India Among the Fastest-Growing Markets

India recorded one of the strongest growth rates among Vietnam’s key tourism markets, with visitor arrivals increasing by 45.6% compared to the same period last year. Tourism officials attributed the sharp rise to expanded direct flight connectivity, stronger destination marketing campaigns, and growing travel demand between the two countries. European markets also posted significant gains, supported by Vietnam’s visa exemption policies for several countries and increasing interest in Southeast Asian travel.

Visa Reforms and Connectivity Fuel Tourism Growth

According to VNAT, Vietnam’s impressive tourism performance has been driven by a combination of favorable visa policies, expanded international air connectivity, targeted global marketing campaigns, and strengthened tourism cooperation with international partners. Despite ongoing global economic uncertainties, these initiatives have helped sustain inbound tourism growth and boost visitor confidence.

On Course for Record Tourism Year

With nearly half of its annual target already achieved within six months, Vietnam is well-positioned to meet its ambitious goal of 25 million international visitors in 2026. The strong first-half performance reflects the country’s successful tourism recovery strategy and reinforces its growing reputation as one of Asia’s leading travel destinations, offering diverse cultural experiences, natural attractions, world-class cuisine, and expanding international connectivity.
