Landslide Disrupts Traffic at Nagdhunga, Impacts Tourism Flow to Kathmandu

One-way traffic has resumed at Nagdhunga, the key entry and exit point to Kathmandu after a landslide blocked the road earlier this morning. The landslide occurred near Nag Mandir in Chandragiri Municipality-2, Kathmandu, severely affecting the movement of travelers and goods into the federal capital.

The road, which was obstructed since 10:30 AM, was reopened for one-way traffic at around 5:00 PM, according to the Police Range Thankot. Continuous rain throughout the day caused the landslip, delaying the clearance efforts and leaving hundreds of travelers stranded on both sides of the road.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Surya Prakash Subedi, head of the Thankot police range, warned that the risk of further landslides remains high if the rainfall continues. Police have been using loudspeakers to advise travelers to avoid the route if possible, citing safety concerns.

The Nagdhunga road is a critical artery for tourism, as it serves as the main gateway for visitors arriving in Kathmandu by road. The disruption not only stranded local commuters but also delayed the travel plans of many tourists heading to the capital. With the monsoon season in full swing, such incidents highlight the challenges faced by the tourism sector in ensuring safe and timely access to Kathmandu.

Tourism operators have expressed concern over the recurring landslides, which could deter tourists from choosing road travel to the capital. Authorities are urged to take necessary precautions and reinforce road safety measures to minimize the impact on the tourism industry, especially during peak travel seasons.

As Kathmandu continues to be a prime destination for both domestic and international tourists, ensuring the safety and reliability of access routes like Nagdhunga is essential for sustaining the flow of visitors and supporting the local economy.
