Chhabdi Barahi Temple Reconstructed for NPR 7 Million

The Chhabdi Barahi Temple, located in Vyas Municipality-14, has been reconstructed for NPR 7 million. The temple, which has been rebuilt with added features, now presents an attractive appearance.

The reconstruction was funded by the Gandaki Province government and the Chhabdi Barahi Development Fund, according to the Fund’s Chairman, Prem Bahadur Thapa. The project was completed within a year, and last Friday, the idol of Chhabdi Barahi was reinstalled in the newly reconstructed temple. The Gandaki Province government contributed NPR 2.4 million to the project, while the Fund invested NPR 4.6 million.

There is a local belief that Jaldevi, in the form of a fish adorned with a golden tika, resides at Chhabdi Barahi. The river outside the temple is home to thousands of fish. The temple is traditionally managed by three priests from the Magar community.

Animal sacrifices, including ducks, pigeons, goats, and buffaloes, are offered at the temple on most days except during the months of Saun, Ekadashi, and Aunsi. The temple complex includes the old Chhabdi Barahi Temple, a fish-shaped water spout, a pond with fish, and a statue of Matsyagandha in the center of the pond.

Located seven kilometers from Damauli Bazaar, the Chhabdi Barahi Temple is a significant pilgrimage site, attracting devotees from various parts of the country for worship.
