Devghat, a prominent religious pilgrimage site in Tanahun, has been placed under threat due to continuous rainfall since Thursday night. The floods in the Trishuli and Kaligandaki rivers have endangered religious, educational, and physical structures in the area.
Devghat Rural Municipality has suffered extensive damage from the floods, with Mahadev Basic School in Sadebagar, Devghat-5, submerged under the Kaligandaki’s rising waters. The school’s principal, Shivahari Wagle, reported that the floodwaters destroyed all school documents.
Meanwhile, the Trishuli River’s floodwaters have raised concerns over the safety of the Dasdhunga Bridge, which connects Chitwan and Devghat. The river’s water level surged on Saturday, briefly submerging the bridge, leading to a temporary halt in traffic for several hours.
Additionally, the suspension bridge connecting Devghat-5 and Bagandi in Chitwan’s 17 Kilo area has also been placed at risk. Flooding from the Trishuli River has affected the Galeshwar Ashram, washing away part of its riverside area. Moreover, several temples, monasteries, and resting places, including the Beni confluence in Devghat, have been inundated by floodwaters, according to Devghat Rural Municipality spokesperson Purnabahadur Kunwar.
The situation remains critical as efforts continue to assess the full extent of the damage and safeguard the affected structures.
