Ministry Allocates Funds for Cultural and Archaeological Conservation Initiatives

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has announced significant budget allocations exceeding Rs. 1 lakh for various cultural and archaeological conservation programs. These funds, aimed at preserving Nepal’s rich heritage, will be implemented by federal bodies across the country.

Under the Archaeological Site Conservation Program, the Department of Archaeology has earmarked Rs. 500,000 for comprehensive conservation efforts. This includes funding for smaller-scale programs ranging from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 400,000, targeting specific sites and artifacts throughout Nepal.

Previously, the government had planned to execute projects up to Rs. 3 crore through local bodies. However, the focus has now shifted, with federal agencies taking the lead in funding initiatives valued at up to Rs. 1 lakh each. This strategic realignment aims to streamline efforts and ensure effective utilization of resources for heritage conservation.

In Province 2, a budget allocation of Rs. 100,000 has been designated specifically for the conservation of archaeological artifacts and heritage sites. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding regional cultural treasures and promoting tourism potential in less-explored areas.

Furthermore, a separate allocation of Rs. 100,000 has been set aside for the chemical conservation of cultural heritage items listed on the World Heritage List. This funding will support conservation efforts in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur districts, home to some of Nepal’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

In a bid to restore significant religious structures, Rs. 100,000 has been allocated for the reconstruction of the Devisthan Temple in Bhaktapur. This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to preserve Nepal’s religious architecture and promote cultural continuity.

The Ministry’s decision to allocate these funds underscores Nepal’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage and promoting sustainable tourism. By empowering federal bodies and local stakeholders, the government aims to enhance public engagement in conservation efforts and ensure the long-term preservation of Nepal’s unique cultural legacy.
