Bhaktapur Hosts Successful 100 km ‘Fourth Kora Bhaktapur Cycling Challenge 2024’

To establish Bhaktapur as a premier national and international cycling destination, the ‘Fourth Kora Bhaktapur Cycling Challenge 2024’ was successfully concluded, covering a 100 km route. Organized by Cycle Connect Bhaktapur, the challenge began at 6 AM from Napukhu (pond) in Dudhpati, Bhaktapur, and concluded at the same location in the evening.

Sumit Bala, the founding president of Cycle Connect Bhaktapur and coordinator of the event, highlighted that the Kora Bhaktapur Cycling Challenge not only helps promote Nepal globally but also significantly contributes to the country’s tourism development. The event saw participation from 1,300 cyclists, including both domestic and international riders.

The cycling route traversed through Bhaktapur and Kavrepalanchok, showcasing the scenic beauty of Bhaktapur’s major tourist attractions. The journey reached an altitude of 2,100 meters, with cyclists completing the 100 km route in a single day.

Key points along the route included Siddhapokhari, Sallaghari, Naya Thimi, Bahakha Bazaar, Bode, Nilbarahi, Bensigaon, Duwakot, Changunarayan, Trishul Danda, Telkot, Nagarkot, Thakalmath, Khawa, Nala Gumba, Bhangal, Latambeshwor, Sanga, Khalchok, Ashapuri, Ranikot, Gundu, Gamcha, Biruwa, Sirutar, Balkot, Lokanthali, Kaushaltar, Sanothimi, and back to Sallaghari, eventually returning to Napukhu.

Over 100 women participated in the event, cycling across four routes of 25 km, 50 km, 75 km, and 100 km. Bala noted that this year’s participation set a historic record for the Kora Bhaktapur event.

The Kora Cycling Challenge, which began in Kathmandu in 2011, has expanded to over 20 cities in Nepal and several international locations, including Singapore, Australia, Germany, the United States, and India.
