China Southern Airlines has launched an upgraded Airbus A320neo on its Guangzhou-Kathmandu route starting Tuesday, enhancing the flight experience and increasing passenger capacity by 15 seats compared to the previous A319 aircraft. The A320neo, with its improved cabin design and spacious seating, provides a more comfortable and accommodating journey for passengers, according to the airline’s statement.
With a seating capacity of 130, the new Airbus A320neo is expected to provide travelers with an enhanced flight experience. “This upgraded aircraft offers passengers a roomier, more comfortable cabin with redesigned seats,” stated the airline. The move marks a key milestone in air connectivity between China and Nepal, reinforcing the friendly ties between the two nations and facilitating easier exchanges of people and goods.
China Southern Airlines, which began operating in Nepal in 2006, has played a critical role in providing affordable, efficient flights for Nepali students and business travelers flying to destinations in Australia, the United States, and Canada. The airline’s service has become popular among travelers seeking alternatives to costly fares and long layovers in Gulf countries, with many Nepali businesspeople also utilizing the Guangzhou route for trade purposes.
Notably, China Southern temporarily halted flights for seven months during the fuel crisis caused by India’s unofficial blockade, and again for 19 months during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since resuming flights in 2022, it has offered daily flights between China and Nepal, contributing to Nepal’s tourism and trade sectors.
Through this fleet upgrade, China Southern Airlines aims to establish a more comfortable and efficient air bridge, fostering stronger cultural and economic ties between China and Nepal.
