The Buddha Jayanti served as a platform to honor the life and teachings while reinforcing the deep-rooted religious and cultural ties between Nepal and Myanmar. The Embassy of Nepal in Yangon organized a Dharmadeshana (Buddhist sermon) and Bhikshadan (alms offering) program on Friday to commemorate the 2570th celebration of Buddha Jayanti. The event, held within the embassy premises in Yangon, brought together members of the diplomatic community, religious figures, and the Nepali diaspora in Myanmar. The ceremony served as a platform to honor the life and teachings of Lord Buddha while reinforcing the deep-rooted religious and cultural ties between Nepal and Myanmar.
Ceremony Begins with Traditional Rituals
The program commenced with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp (Deep Prajwalan), followed by floral offerings to a statue of Gautam Buddha installed at the embassy premises during the 2568th Buddha Jayanti. The rituals symbolized reverence, purity, and enlightenment, core elements of Buddhist philosophy, setting a spiritual tone for the program.

Ambassador Highlights Teachings and Historical Links
Welcoming the guests, Nepal’s Ambassador to Myanmar, Harischandra Ghimire, elaborated on the teachings and principles of Lord Buddha, emphasizing their relevance in promoting peace, compassion, and harmony in today’s world.
He also highlighted historical connections between Myanmar and Gautam Buddha, noting that relics believed to be strands of his hair are preserved at the revered Shwedagon Pagoda. Ambassador Ghimire stated that Buddha Jayanti marks three significant milestones in Buddha’s life, his birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana, and is observed globally by followers paying tribute to his teachings.
