Four Tourists, Including a Foreigner, Rescued from Heavy Snowfall in Everest Region

Four tourists, including a 74-year-old Singaporean national, were rescued after being trapped in snow in the Everest region. The rescued individuals include Lin Chun Heng from Singapore, 45-year-old Krishnaraj Gurung from Khijidemba Rural Municipality-7, Okhaldhunga, 64-year-old Bhim Bahadur Gurung from Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-11, Sunsari, and 22-year-old Bipan Tamang from Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality-4, Solukhumbu.

The group was reported stranded on Friday after losing their way due to heavy snowfall in Khumjuma, located in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-4, Solukhumbu District, according to the District Police Office of Solukhumbu.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dwarika Prasad Ghimire stated that local residents, along with the police, were mobilized to rescue the group. “They were trapped after the path was blocked by snow, covering about two hours of walking distance due to the heavy snowfall. A team of locals and police successfully rescued them and brought them to safety in Lobuche,” said DSP Ghimire.

All four rescued individuals are reported to be in stable health and are currently staying at a hotel in Lobuche, as confirmed by the Solukhumbu Police.
