Severe Snowstorm Paralyzes Life in Samdo, Chumnubri Rural Municipality, Gorkha

Samdo, located in Chumnubri Rural Municipality-1 of northern Gorkha, has experienced heavy snowfall, which began last night and continues to affect the area. Nima Lama, the chairman of Chumnubri Rural Municipality, confirmed the persistent snowfall, which has significantly impacted the local population.

The snowfall, occurring in the final week of Chaitra, has caused a sudden drop in temperature in the region. According to Lama, “Since last night, the snow has blanketed everything from rooftops to the ground. The temperature has drastically decreased due to the snowstorm.”

Samdo, situated at an elevation of approximately 3,877 meters above sea level, is known for its harsh weather conditions. The heavy snow has also disrupted travel plans for tourists heading toward Larke Pass. Visitors attempting to cross the pass have been halted, and many are taking refuge in local hotels due to the severe weather. Residents are finding it difficult to step outside their homes because of the heavy snowfall.

The entire Larke Pass trekking route is currently covered in snow, making it impassable. The local authorities are monitoring the situation closely as both tourists and residents navigate these challenging weather conditions.
