Lumbini Province Chief Minister Emphasizes Development of Buddhist and Lumbini Circuits for Tourism

Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chet Narayan Acharya, announced plans to develop the Buddhist and Lumbini circuits to enhance the region’s tourism sector. Speaking at the inauguration of the Gautam Buddha National Park Festival in Devdaha today, he emphasized the government’s initiative to connect Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, and West Nawalparasi through the Buddhist Circuit and integrate all 12 districts of the province into the Lumbini Circuit.

Chief Minister Acharya stated that the province has prepared a master plan for the Buddhist Circuit, which will link heritage sites from Tilaurakot to Ramgram in Nawalparasi through tourism infrastructure development. “Our concept aims to connect tourists visiting Lumbini and promote the broader vision of the Lumbini Circuit,” he said.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to developing tourist destinations with innovative approaches to attract both domestic and international visitors. Stressing the importance of sustainable development, Acharya urged the use of local wood and materials to create artistic designs and tourism infrastructure, discouraging the use of cement-based structures in the park.

Highlighting the priority given to tourism, he noted that policies and programs are being implemented to promote the sector. Referring to the “Visit Bardiya” campaign aimed at attracting tourists to Bardiya, he called for a similar promotional drive to attract visitors to Devdaha.

The Buddha Community Forest Users Group, established in 1999, showcased various wooden sculptures at the event to promote forest conservation, biodiversity, and tourism. Spanning 49,752 hectares, the community forest has become a hub for environmental preservation and tourism promotion.

Acharya concluded by calling for intensified efforts to enhance publicity campaigns to attract more domestic and international tourists to Devdaha and other destinations within the province.
