Minister Badri Prasad Pandey Advocates for Cultural Preservation and Role of Artists

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identities, asserting that a person without culture is indistinguishable. Speaking at the Cultural Institution Special Ceremony and Award Program, 2081, organized by the Cultural Institution, Minister Pandey urged that all cultures within Nepal should be respected and honored.

Pandey highlighted the significant role that artists play in promoting Nepali art and culture. “The role of artists in promoting Nepali art and culture is crucial. I am confident that through their performances, they will continue to incorporate and promote Nepal’s diverse cultures through art,” he said.

The Minister expressed his pleasure in honoring the artists and stressed the importance of the Cultural Institution in the preservation of Nepali culture. He further assured that his ministry was prepared to support the institution in its efforts. “In the past, we used to hear foreign language songs during weddings and religious ceremonies. Now, it makes me happy to hear Nepali songs and music in those places. We must strengthen our language and music, which is a good sign for our cultural preservation,” Pandey added.

The event also marked the inauguration of a new program titled “Man-Manma Sanskriti, Oth-Othma Haso”, which will take place on the last Friday of every month at the institution. The program aims to promote Nepal’s traditional culture, art, and entertainment, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the country’s diverse heritage.

Additionally, a new recording studio was inaugurated at the Cultural Institution, with the institution’s Executive Director, Kiranbabu Pun, informing attendees about the progress made in the institution over the past year. “The institution is working towards promoting culture through various programs. There are some challenges, but we are working to overcome them and bring the institution to new heights,” Pun said.

During the event, several prominent figures in the Nepali entertainment industry, including singers Narayan Rayamajhi, Raju Pariyar, Ramji Khad, and actresses like Sharmila Gurung, as well as comedians Sitaram Kattel and Kunjana Ghimire, were honored with cash awards for their contributions to Nepali culture and entertainment.

Comedy actor Shivashankar Rizal, who was among those honored, expressed how receiving the recognition motivated him further. “Being recognized for our contributions to promoting culture and art adds to our responsibility. This honor gives us energy and strengthens our resolve to continue our artistic journey,” he said.

The program also featured traditional performances, including Aryatara Charya dance, Kora, Bhume, Sake, and the staging of Achhop, a Maithili language drama by Ram Bhajan Kamat, along with sketches and performances by Shivshankar Rizal and Surendra KC.

The Cultural Institution, also known as the Dance House, was founded 65 years ago to promote and preserve Nepal’s diverse cultural heritage, offering training and cultural programs to safeguard the country’s artistic traditions.
