The Ambassador of Myanmar to Nepal, U Mayo Mint Maung, visited the Swayambhunath Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this morning for a ceremonial visit and prayer offerings. Accompanied by Myanmar’s Religious Guru, Sayadaw Sikago Saydo, the ambassador explored the stupa and surrounding heritage sites before conducting a traditional Buddhist prayer ceremony.
The Swayambhunath Management and Conservation Committee warmly welcomed the ambassador and his delegation, honoring them with a reception. The committee’s Chairman, Mahasthavir Bhikkhu Dharmamurti, briefed the visitors on the historical significance of the site, as well as its cultural and religious activities. He emphasized the role the committee plays in promoting Buddhist literature and philosophy on the international stage.
Religious Guru Sayadaw Sikago expressed his happiness at being able to visit the sacred site and noted the importance of Buddhist teachings for global peace and human welfare. He highlighted the need to promote Buddhist literature and philosophy, which contribute to a greater understanding of the teachings’ universal value.
The committee’s Secretary, Chandratna Buddhacharya, also shared that the site serves as a place for followers of all Buddhist traditions—Hīnayāna, Mahāyāna, and others—to express their faith. He expressed hope that visits from diplomatic missions would help spread positive messages internationally, enhancing religious tourism and contributing to cultural diplomacy.
During the event, the Swayambhunath Management and Conservation Committee presented the delegation with several publications and gifts, further strengthening the cultural ties between the two countries.
This visit underscores the shared commitment to preserving and promoting Nepal’s rich cultural and religious heritage on the global stage.
