In a vibrant display of music, dance, and diplomacy, a special musical and award distribution program was held to foster cultural preservation and promote tourism between Nepal and China. The event, titled the Third SMS Nepal-China Cultural Preservation and Tourism Promotion Honors and Awards 2081, concluded with grandeur on Saturday night. It was organized by SMS Music and Entertainment and co-organized by Changdongxi Guilin Estate Management and Guilin Elite Education Consulting.
The event served as a lively platform for cultural exchange, showcasing the rich traditions and artistic expressions of both countries. A variety of performances lit up the evening, with celebrated Nepali artists such as Devika Bandana, Kamal Khatri, and the National Dynamic Art Group captivating the audience through musical renditions and traditional dances. Equally engaging were the Chinese artists who presented a series of culturally rich dances and songs, symbolizing the shared artistic heritage and deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.
Satyakala Tamang Lama, Chairperson of SMS Music and Entertainment, emphasized the significance of the event in fostering bilateral ties. “This program acts as a bridge for friendship, culture, art, and tourism promotion between Nepal and China,” Lama stated. “Our objective of bringing Nepal’s identity and voice to the international stage is being realized through this platform,” she added.
The event not only featured artistic brilliance but also included the distribution of honors and awards to recognize outstanding contributions in music and cultural exchange. Renowned Nepali singer Devika Bandana received the Emerging Singer Award, while Kamal Khatri was honored with the Best Singer Award, further highlighting the musical talents that represent Nepal on global stages.
Adding depth to the evening, Asim Rai, Chair of Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu, shared reflections on the long-standing ties between Nepal and China. “Our two nations share not only geographical proximity but also centuries-old historical, religious, and cultural bonds. From ancient Buddhist monasteries to modern infrastructure and tourism collaborations, our friendship is becoming deeper and more meaningful with time,” he said.
Musical & Award Program
The program’s chief guest, Blang Xianfeng, Secretary of the Guilin United Front Work Department, remarked that such cultural initiatives are crucial for expanding people-to-people relations. “Events like this help build mutual trust and understanding. They enhance cooperation at grassroots levels, which is fundamental for sustained bilateral relations,” Xianfeng noted.
Several other dignitaries from China attended the event, including Lin Bin, President of the Guilin Cultural Volunteer Association; Zhang Gaolian, Deputy Director of the Guilin United Front Work Department; Yang Yunwu, Vice President of the Guilin City Glory Cause Promotion Association; Chen Hongxian, President of Guilin Asset Management; and Mo Guangfu, Captain of the Lijiang Rescue Center.
The evening also highlighted the intersection between adventure tourism and cultural diplomacy. Prominent Everest climber Midna Dembe Sherpa shared his mountaineering experiences and emphasized how Nepal’s majestic peaks continue to attract global attention. Having successfully climbed mountains over 8,000 meters a remarkable 33 times, Sherpa said, “Mountaineering is not just a sport it’s a way to showcase Nepal’s natural beauty and promote sustainable tourism on the world stage.”
Thupten Gyalbo Moktan, Managing Director of SMS Music and Entertainment, concluded the event with a hopeful message for future collaboration. “We believe that programs like this, which celebrate friendship, culture, and tourism, play an essential role in deepening mutual understanding between Nepal and China,” Moktan said. “By presenting Nepal’s musical heritage and cultural richness on this international platform, we are fostering respect and curiosity about our country among global audiences.”
