Kaski’s Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality is witnessing a tense search operation as a Nepali guide has gone missing while guiding a group on Mardi Himal. The guide, 62-year-old Lal Bahadur Tamang from Kalche-1, Nuwakot, reportedly fell and lost contact with his team on Kartik 25. The search effort is being led by security personnel, sherpas, the missing guide’s family members, and representatives from Sunrise Company.
Tamang was leading an expedition organized by Kathmandu’s Sunrise Company, which included one foreign client and four Nepali team members. The group departed from Mardi Base Camp on Kartik 23. According to Ward Chairperson Hari Bahadur Chhetri of Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality–9, the Norwegian client in the group reported Tamang’s fall to porter Prestige Burlakoti on the evening of the incident.
A rescue team consisting of local tourism operators, security personnel, and sherpas reached the high camp of Mardi Himal early this morning. After aerial reconnaissance via helicopter to identify the likely incident area, the team commenced a ground search. “We’ve reached Mardi Base Camp and have located the incident area via helicopter. The rescue team is now proceeding on foot to search for the guide. However, challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions are hindering the search efforts,” stated Chairperson Chhetri.
The last known location of Tamang is at an altitude of approximately 5,400 meters above sea level, adding to the difficulty of the operation in the mountainous terrain. The search continues as the team battles the rough conditions to locate the missing guide.
