After a three-day suspension of flights, Simikot Airport in Humla, a mountainous district lacking direct road access to the national network, has resumed air services. The disruption was primarily due to a lack of passengers during the major Dashain festival, which saw the airport remain idle.
On Monday, Tara Air and Nepal Airlines operated flights, with Tara Air conducting one flight and Nepal Airlines completing two. In addition to passenger transport, these flights also delivered essential daily goods and construction materials to the region.
Simikot Station Chief Chhiring Lama reported that ticket bookings for Tuesday are already full, indicating an anticipated increase in passenger traffic. He noted, “The number of people leaving Humla is greater than those entering the district,” reflecting a common trend during and after the festival period.
While Tara Air and Nepal Airlines resumed operations, Sita Air and Summit Air did not conduct any flights on Monday. As demand for air travel rises, the Simikot Airport Office is optimistic about more consistent flight schedules in the coming days.
