Perched atop a hill in Nilkantha Municipality-6, Bhadravi Temple has become a prominent tourist destination, attracting visitors for its breathtaking views of the Ganesh, Manaslu, and Manapathi mountain ranges. The temple is increasingly drawing crowds seeking spiritual solace, scenic vistas, and a peaceful retreat.
Established in 1666 BS by King Ram Shah, Bhadravi Temple is one of the eight sacred Shakti Peeths founded during his reign. According to the Bhadravi Temple Trust Secretary, Krishna Bahadur Shrestha, historical records reveal that King Prithvi Narayan Shah stayed and made vows at the temple before achieving victory in the conquest of Nuwakot. In recognition of its significance, King Shah allocated 90 ropani, 11 aana, and 2 paisa of land for temple priests and musicians under a Guthi system.
The temple hosts grand festivals during Dashain and Chaite Dashain, with unique traditions like animal sacrifices on Navami of the Dashain festival. Special pujas, vows, and offerings are integral to the temple’s cultural heritage.
To visit Bhadravi Temple, travelers must cover an 18-kilometer journey from Dhading’s district headquarters. Its popularity has surged following its reconstruction after the 2015 earthquake. Deputy Mayor of Nilkantha Municipality, Deepak Bishwakarma, emphasized the municipality’s priority to conserve and promote the temple. “The restoration of the temple and the panoramic Himalayan views it offers have significantly increased tourist arrivals,” he remarked.
Visitors from as far as India now frequent the Bhadravi Temple, as shared by the temple’s priest, Bhagwan Rana Magar.
