The construction of the much-anticipated Pathibhara Devi Mukumlung Darshan Cable Car project, aimed at connecting the revered Pathibhara Devi Temple in Taplejung, officially commenced on Tuesday. This ambitious project is expected to transform the region into a prominent tourism hub.
Indra Kedem, head of Himalaya Construction, announced the start of construction at the project’s lowest station. He expressed optimism about the swift progress of the next development phases, highlighting the seamless coordination among political leaders, local representatives, government agencies, security forces, and the community.
Rudra Poudel, director of the Pathibhara Cable Car, emphasized the project’s transformative potential for the economic, social, and cultural development of the Taplejung region and the broader Koshi Province. He assured that the cable car would be operational within 15 months, significantly improving accessibility for devotees, including senior citizens, children, and individuals with disabilities.
The cable car is projected to attract over one million visitors annually, revolutionizing tourism in the area. Poudel noted that this initiative would set a benchmark for tourism promotion, job creation, environmental sustainability, and overall regional growth. The project aims to establish Taplejung as a unique tourism destination offering safe, sustainable, and world-class services.
The Pathibhara Cable Car project is managed by the IME Group, which brings extensive expertise in cable car construction and operation. IME has successfully developed other iconic cable car projects, including the Chandragiri Cable Car in Kathmandu, Maulakali Cable Car in Nawalpur, and Lumbini Cable Car in Butwal—all completed ahead of schedule. Additionally, the Jalpadevi Cable Car in Karnali is progressing rapidly.
Building on its legacy, the IME Group aims to complete the Pathibhara Cable Car swiftly, further cementing its role in advancing Nepal’s tourism sector. The group has also pledged to spearhead more “game-changer” projects to enhance the country’s tourism landscape.
The Pathibhara Devi Mukumlung Darshan Cable Car stands as a beacon of hope for economic prosperity, cultural preservation, and tourism excellence in Nepal.
