Minister Pandey Stresses the Need to Pass Nepali Art and Culture to Future Generations

Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Badriprasad Pandey has emphasized the importance of transferring Nepal’s rich art, culture, and craftsmanship to the younger generation. Speaking at the 17th Academic Assembly of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts held today, Minister Pandey stated that promoting Nepali art on the global stage would further enhance its significance.

During the event, Minister Pandey encouraged officials of the Academy to focus on innovative and impactful initiatives despite limited resources. “In the current scenario, we must think about how to achieve creative and substantial outcomes with minimal resources,” he remarked. Highlighting the ministry’s support, he added, “The ministry is committed to assisting in the development of fine arts. This assembly should set a clear direction for the future of the Academy.”

The Academy’s Chancellor, Naradmani Hartamchali, outlined the agenda of the assembly, which included discussions on internal matters and future strategies. He emphasized the need for the Academy to adapt to contemporary dynamics and stated, “It is time for the academic sector to rejuvenate cultural dimensions with mindful and objective planning.”

Nisha Sharma, Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama, praised the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts for its commendable work among the three central academies. She expressed optimism that the assembly would yield constructive outcomes for the days ahead.

Vice-Chancellor of the Fine Arts Academy, Lal Kaji Lama, reflected on the Academy’s journey toward maturity since its inception but pointed out the persistent challenge of insufficient funding. Similarly, Member Secretary Devendra Kumar Kafle (Thumkeli) underscored the need to integrate fine arts into local governance systems to revive and strengthen the sector. He detailed the Academy’s collaborative efforts with various municipalities, organizations, and metropolitan cities during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2081/82.

Thumkeli further emphasized the need for institutionalizing Nepali art with originality and advancing culture, nature, and art as pillars of development. “This assembly will outline the future path for fine arts and contribute to the renaissance of Nepali art,” he remarked.

The event marked a significant step toward strategic planning and the promotion of Nepal’s art and culture on a national and global scale.
