Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav Highlights Unity and Cultural Significance of Bibaha Panchami Festival

Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav has expressed his confidence that the celebration of Bibaha Panchami would foster social and national unity. In his message on the occasion of the festival, the Vice President extended his heartfelt wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity, and good health to all Nepali brothers and sisters both at home and abroad.

Bibaha Panchami, a festival of deep religious and cultural significance, is being celebrated across the country today. The occasion is marked by worshipping and paying homage to Lord Ramchandra and Goddess Sita, the central figures of the festival. It falls on the fifth day of Marga Shukla Paksha according to the lunar calendar and commemorates the wedding of Ram and Sita in the Tretayug, as described in Hindu mythology.

The historic city of Janakpur, the birthplace of Sita, is the focal point of the festival, drawing thousands of devotees who have gathered since early morning at the famous Janaki Temple to offer prayers. The celebration is filled with gaiety and religious fervour, with people from all walks of life taking part in the vibrant processions and ceremonies.

The mythological tale behind Bibaha Panchami speaks of King Janak of Mithila, who set a test for the suitors of his daughter, Sita, by asking them to lift the great bow of Lord Shiva. Despite the efforts of many warriors, it was Ram, a prince from Ayodhya, who not only lifted the bow with ease but also broke it when attempting to string it. This event led to the marriage of Ram and Sita in Janakpur, an occasion that is celebrated each year with great devotion and enthusiasm.

As part of the week-long celebrations, idols of Ram and Sita are taken out in procession, and their wedding ceremony is reenacted. Additionally, several cultural events, including Matkor, Tilakostsab, and Swayambar, are held in line with Mithila traditions.

Vice President Yadav emphasized that Bibaha Panchami should be viewed as an opportunity to promote social virtues and encourage moral values within families and communities. He remarked that the stories of Ram and Sita should inspire individuals to embrace virtues such as love, respect, and commitment in their own lives.

The folk songs, dances, and traditional processions held during the festival also play a significant role in bringing to life Nepal’s rich cultural heritage, according to the Vice President. Through these cultural expressions, Bibaha Panchami not only strengthens social ties but also serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and moral integrity in society.
