The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Gandaki is set to celebrate the 76th Annapurna Climbing Day on Wednesday by promoting various tourism destinations in the Dordi Rural Municipality area of Lamjung district.
The annual event commemorates the historic first ascent of Mt. Annapurna I, the world’s first successfully climbed mountain above 8,000 meters.

Historic First Ascent of Annapurna I
On June 3, 1950, French climbers Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal successfully summited the 8,091-meter Annapurna I for the first time in history.
Since then, June 3 has been observed annually as Annapurna Climbing Day to honor the landmark achievement in global mountaineering history.
Focus on Lamjung’s Dordi Region This Year
According to TAAN Gandaki President Krishna Prasad Acharya, this year’s celebration will highlight tourism destinations and trekking routes within Dordi Rural Municipality of Lamjung.

While the Annapurna Climbing Day is traditionally celebrated at different locations across the Annapurna region each year, the 76th edition will specifically focus on promoting the tourism potential of the Dordi area.
Promotion of Trekking Routes and Local Culture
President Acharya informed that the celebrations will take place on Jestha 20 and 21 (June 3 and 4). The program will include activities aimed at identifying and promoting trekking trails in the Dordi region.
In addition to tourism promotion, the event will also emphasize the preservation of local art and culture, showcasing the unique traditions and heritage of the area.

Discussion on Climate Change and Mountain Tourism
The program will also feature interactions and discussions on the impacts of climate change on mountain tourism and the Himalayan environment.
Organizers say the event aims to raise awareness about environmental challenges facing Nepal’s mountain regions while encouraging sustainable tourism practices.
