Massive Gathering at Barah for Maghe Sankranti Festival

In celebration of Maghe Sankranti, a grand fair has been held at Barah today, attracting over a million participants, according to Ramchandra Sah, Chairman of the Gadhimai Operation and Development Committee. The event has drawn people from various regions, turning it into one of the largest gatherings for the occasion.

This year, although the auspicious time for the animal sacrifice (Bali) was determined on 24th Mangsir, financial constraints had delayed the sacrifice. However, today, devotees were able to offer sacrifices as part of the celebrations. Mangal Chaudhary, the chief priest of the temple, confirmed that many devotees had fulfilled their vows by offering goats for sacrifice, while others participated by releasing pigeons as part of their ritualistic offerings.

Birendra Yadav, General Secretary of the Fair’s main management committee, shared that pilgrims from Nepal and various regions of India attended the fair. To ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience for the Indian visitors, the entry points from Raxaul, Matiyerva, Simrongadh, and Gaur were organized with light vehicles allowed free entry to the temple area, ensuring convenience for the devotees traveling from across the border.

The fair continues to be a significant cultural and religious event for people from both Nepal and India, reinforcing the spirit of devotion and unity.
